Westmorland Woodfuel is run by Tim Nicholson from Sleastonhow Farm in the Eden Valley, where the woodfuel business developed as a diversification from the family’s main farming enterprise.
Tim has been supplying locally grown firewood to homes and businesses across the surrounding area since 2013. His focus is on providing a dependable local service and consistently dry, properly prepared logs that customers can burn with confidence.
Working with local foresters, woodland owners and land managers, Westmorland Woodfuel also helps create a practical market for timber produced through the responsible management of Cumbria’s woodlands.
Local woodfuel, responsibly produced
Our aim is simple: to produce consistently dry firewood from locally sourced timber and meet the growing demand for a reliable local product. We work with foresters, woodland owners and land managers, helping to create a market for timber arising from the responsible management of local woodlands.
Well-managed woodlands can provide a continuing supply of renewable fuel while also supporting healthier woodland habitats and the local rural economy. By processing and supplying the timber locally, we can keep transport distances down and ensure that more of the value remains within the area.
Dry firewood burns more efficiently, produces more useful heat and creates less smoke than poorly seasoned wood. Our logs are carefully dried and moisture tested before sale to ensure that they contain less than 20% moisture.
Independently accredited woodfuel
Westmorland Woodfuel is accredited under the Woodsure Ready to Burn scheme for our firewood products, registration number WS790. This provides independent assurance that our logs meet the required moisture standards for domestic burning.
We are also listed on the Biomass Suppliers List for our boiler logs and woodchip, enabling eligible customers to use our fuel where BSL registration is required for Renewable Heat Incentive payments.
By supplying properly dried, locally grown woodfuel, we aim to provide a practical alternative to fossil fuels while supporting the sustainable management of Cumbria’s woodlands.
